Daniel serves as the lead health and medical advisor for XPRIZE. In March 2020, Daniel was asked to Chair the XPRIZE Pandemic & Health Alliance Task Force: The Alliance is made up of over 60 leading universities, NGO’s, Fortune 500 and startups, and is focused on catalyzing new and existing solutions. Many initiatives have been launched by this alliance, including the $6M Rapid Covid Screening XPRIZE.
Daniel has served as a Life Sciences advisor to the XPRIZE since 2009. He helped conceive of and develop the $10M Qualcomm Tricorder Xprize Competition.
In 2016 he served as 'Bold Innovator' in conceiving and developing a new XPRIZE focused on early cancer detection. Of the 9 new XPRIZE concepts presented at the 2016 Visioneering event, the Cancer Xprize was the top ranked new prize concept. The Cancer Xprize is being further developed for launch.
developing an xprize for early cancer detection...
Financial incentives today reward innovations in cancer treatment, not detection. In order to maximize progress in the field of cancer research and catalyze breakthroughs, we need to tackle the problem from every possible angle. Teams will develop a means to accurately, rapidly, and affordably screen for early cancer where intervention can not only decrease human suffering but potentially foster an environment where we can truly conquer cancer.
MEDICAL TRICORDER XPRIZE
Core elements of a Tricorder XPRIZE was conceived by Daniel (original winning XPRIZE Visioneerg 2011 ‘pitch’ in the video below). This was further developed as the $10M Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE. Hundreds of teams entered the competition, and winning teams announced in 2017.
